CONEY ISLAND
Brooklyn, NY
The revitalization of this iconic seaside attraction was initiated by the City of New York. Working with Italian amusement ride manufacturer and park operator, Zamperla SpA, and Central Amusement International to bring the first amusement park back to Coney Island in 40 years with its opening in May 2010.
The project consisted of three phases on three parcels and occupies over 7 acres - including the former Astroland Amusement Park and adjoining abandoned parcels.
The first phase involved the design, permit, and construction in the 100 days following lease signing. The work involved complete site remediation, a new underground storm system, 19 new rides, countless attractions, and restaurants.
Over 20 teams, the Mayor's Office, and the Economic Development Corporation collaborated on the project.
